[ It can definitely be confusing to someone who doesn't know Juvia personally― so she gives something that resembles an apologetic look towards him.
A current pushes forth from her outstretched hands, her magic drawing in the water surrounding them instead of making her own. It hits the tooth with enough sheer force to knock it out, the only downside being that the current of water is currently carrying the tooth through the skeleton.
Juvia looks back at him, eyes moving between him and the spot where the tooth once was, before following its path. ]
[ Hm. Well, that's one way to do it. After Juvia knocks out the tooth, Koltira reaches forward, his eyes narrowed. A whip of dark energy bursts from his open palm, lashing around the tooth, adjusting itself to fit the thing's shape. Koltira flicks his wrist and the line of shadows quivers, snapping back like a boomerang, tooth in tow.
He nods to Juvia as he gets his hands on the prize, a clear expression of gratitude on his face. Speech remains a problem, so he jabs a thumb at the surface. Going up? ]
[ Another magic user. She's only ever met one other person here besides herself with powers..! It relaxes her, prompts her to stop and follow the whip from the tooth straight over to him. She nods, a little excitement beneath her stoic expression.
Juvia weaves her way out of the ship, using the water to propel her towards the surface. The fresh air hits her face when she breaks through the water.
Even when Koltira arrives, she doesn't say much of anything, the only thing being expressed is the sparkle in her eyes and the sheer longing to ask many, many questions she can't form. ]
[oh wow this is surprisingly more awkward than he expected it to be.]
Uh... Before you got there, she... also had to get me off the street that night. Then I napped it off, and ran back to drink more, and that's about when you found me.
A skull is certainly something people would be attracted to, for one reason or another. And thank you. [ Juvia takes his hand, dusting off her dress as she stands.
She doesn't think twice about leaving the fire the way it is, instead moving towards the mouth of the delicately carved skull. ]
I haven't been around areas like this, on this world. So Juvia is a little more worried about the [ foreign, and definitely freaky ] wildlife.
No need to fret. I’ve sharp senses, so I will keep an ear out.
[ As if to illustrate his point, he lifts his hat, revealing the feline ears beneath. As if his tail wasn’t enough of a giveaway to the fact that he isn’t human. ]
We miqo’te are natural-born hunters. I'll do my best to see to it that we aren't hunted instead.
[ The last thing she, as a person, is to know that she left an animal possibly in danger alone by itself. Especially alone, and especially hurt. Her expression hardens considerably.
Juvia hovers right behind Rin, hands clawing at his sleeve in anticipation as they trail after the tiny mews. It's after some moments of walking does it get louder, sounding like it's struggling. ]
[ He doesn't mind the tugging at his sleeve, and is more than comfortable leading the way. It's nice to resume this sort of comfort between them, kind of like partners in crime - except in this instance it's more like partners in saving-stray-animals. ]
It should be...somewhere over here... [ Rin leads them to two dumpsters side by side, and he leans down to get his ear a little closer to the metal of one of them, just as another distressed mew comes out. ] I think it's in this one.
[ He'll open up the lid a bit so they can both peek in. ]
[ She doesn't bother with dusting herself off, instead making sure her hat is still firmly in place. ] Yes. Although a lot of it was traveling between towns. Juvia has gone through jungles like this, maybe once or twice. [ Certainly not by herself, which is why she's thankful that he's a least coming with her.
She's Prone to getting lost, something she won't ever admit to an acquaintance. ] But if you mean on this world, no. Only a forest, when we first arrived. Juvia hasn't done much exploring outside of the cities.
[ She walks alongside him at an easy pace, eyes flicking to the ground to watch where she's going. ]
[ Sometimes he's prone to touch and reaches out to trail his blunted fingertips against some of the foliage. All the leaves are cool to the touch as night settles into the humidity. It smells sort of green and earthy, way more alive than the dusty wastelands he grew up in. ]
There's a lot that's like that for me. Like forests, or lakes. So I explore when I can.
[ Oh..!! Juvia startles at that, but quickly relaxes once she feels the remnant of the vine slide off her (a strange feeling) and drop with a thud to the floor.
She's about to make a comment, about how she doesn't really know what being a ranger entails, much less their armor, but she can already tell he has his eyes on the prize. Juvia knows, because she looks up after he does, too, just to see what he's searching for. ]
Be careful! [ because she knows that look in his eyes.... that determination........ she can't Stop him ] Please, don't get hurt getting Juvia's hat..!
[ The hat's moving around, being passed from vine to vine. It's not a particularly fast process, especially because the other snatching vines largely have their tendrils full--the hat's bumping up against walking sticks, coats, pocket watches, scraps of paper, and so on. Koltira stays where he is, neither scuttling upwards nor trying to leap back down. After a few moments' of observation, he throws his hand out, and a shadowy whip bursts from his palm. The whip grabs her hat, then cracks back like a boomerang. Koltira snatches the hat with his free hand, then holds it against his chest. ]
Got it.
[ The hat feels furry, warm and thick. As a creature of the tundra, he appreciates it. ]
[ He does scare her, even if his touch is gentle, only because of the sheer concentration she's been putting into looking.. what's the word, ready? Ready. She's not sure exactly what part of tonight she's been getting ready for specifically, she can't remember now that he's here, but it's too late. ]
Peter! [ A hand flies to her chest as she turns around to face him. The Extreme Heart Palpitations she feels are originally because of the jump scare, as well meaning as he was with it, but she finds that it only continues when she actually gets a good look at him. His words vaguely register in her head, something to worry about later, as she openly ogles his choice in clothes. His hair, and even the way he seems just a little taller today. Truthfully, she doesn't know what she expected either— probably him showing up in his regular clothes (which, finds she wouldn't really mind).
But he's still as familiar, yet just a little different. ] Juvia likes how you look, tonight. It's handsome. [ That compliment will probably be the only thing she'll manage to say with confidence around him, because she finally remembers he said something about her dress. And she thinks she might've done well, if his response is anything to go by. Or bad. She's hoping it's good. ] ..But, um, Misa and Leanne chose this. [ She says, as if he directly knows them by name. Trying to ease out her nerves, she smooths her dress over as she speaks. ] Juvia wanted it to be blue. In the end, we managed to make common ground.
neither did i... it snuck up on us (it doesnt help that i was 9 days late)
( look, if he'd known he'd had a free pass to show up like the bum he usually dresses like, Peter might of taken it. or not, because Cheryl wouldn't let him, and... well, he'd never admit it in a million years, but you don't go to a gala to meet and exchange gifts with a girl that's important to you wearing a ramone tshirt and about three sweatshirts. his aunt would wake from stasis just to lecture him.
Cheryl had not gone so far to compliment him after he'd cleaned up for the party — she'd deemed him "acceptable" which is probably a compliment coming from Cheryl, just not really a confidence booster to most. he even skipped his glasses for this shindig, but that means he has nothing to hide behind when Juvia mentions he looks handsome. Peter isn't an arrogant kid, he knows he ranges from messy but not terrible looking at best to ... acceptable (maybe Cheryl was on to something) when he bothers. handsome really feels a stretch, yet when it is delivered so sincerely even Peter "dodge all compliments" Parker finds himself short in trying to parkour out of it. )
I... Cheryl said I couldn't show up looking like I sleep on park benches, so... Thanks. ( he laughs slightly nervously, shakes his head, and happily moves on to talking about her instead. ) I know blue is your color, but I like the yellow. It's like sunshine, bright. Sorta like you, you know? ( even Peter knows this is venturing into horrible cheese land, so he deflects with, ) Maybe we can find you a blue party hat. Then it'll be the best of both worlds.
[ As sad as it is to say, she never really thought about water. It wouldn't really be much of a competition if they had that kind of option, but it sounds safe.. ]
Only one glass every two rounds. [ It sounds fair?? And if it doesn't, her firm tone of voice doesn't leave room for argument. ] You won't have to worry about running out, either.
[ And to definitely reassure him, she eyes a glass from the table— it's near empty, something that was discarded by someone else. She slaps her only free hand over the top, water dripping from her palm into the glass. ] Juvia will take care of any thirst you have!
You are right.. No one has ever succeeded in love with just standing there looking pretty. [ Unless you're the protagonist of one of her racy novels, then yes that is definitely the case. ]
Who would come to the gala to steal people like that, anyway? Or maybe, it's the candy? The candy plays a role in snatching him up?
[ At this point she's all mumbling to herself, but despite her weird conspiracy theories, she can't help but notice how.. how forward she is. She's not sure if she should be intimidated, or in awe of the sheer confidence this woman possesses. ]
Regardless of that.. Juvia is jealous of your ability to kiss so freely. You must be experienced.
Juvia is not asking because we will be swimming. Although, that is good to know. [ Gratitude comes naturally for Juvia, especially when it concerns her ability to function like a normal person versus a Wacky Water Mage.
She gestures for him to follow her, a slight skip to her step. ]
[ Certainly hearing that does make her consider the fact that Peter might have some very specific tastes when it comes to transportation. She nods, deciding that while she's only ever traveled the way she has due to convenience, she can still see how it could be cool to someone who has never had the choice.
And as he speaks, the first thing her feeble brain focuses is on is the mention of public property being destroyed-- she's far too familiar with destroying things that aren't hers. Usually more than tables. She's close to making a good-natured comment about how them being able to destroy things increases their compatibility until she really process the first part of his sentence. ]
Jump? From a building?! [ It comes out as a shout, catching the attention of the people across from them. They give her the most concerned look imaginable before she swings her head to lock eyes with them, and instantly they turn back to face each other... Maybe it's the way she's staring at them, or maybe, it's the fact Juvia's hat in her grubby little hand is now crushed from the sheer pressure of her grip.
Even though it makes little to no sense to be worried about it now, she still can't help but ask, ] Peter... Why did you start from a building?? What floor?!! [ in the most hushed tone she can manage. ]

Are you saying the trees could be exchanging Juvia's hat, back and forth, like some kind of sick game?
[ THAT'S CRUEL.. But, truthfully, the idea of sentient trees isn't a super wild idea, somehow fitting with all she's met thus far. ]
You don't think they're that fast, do you? They just took Juvia's hat no less than a minute ago!

[ he's studying the trees, but from below it's a bit hard to make out how their limbs connect and intersect. the foliage blocks out most of that.
so for now he just leaps up, landing on one of the lower branches. ]
I doubt they're fast, but it's hard to see what's going on up there. These things are too tall for their own good.
